Jerry Zinn, 85, of St. Augustine, FL, died on 11/7/25.
His motto was "Dedicated to serve the community". Born in Morgantown, West Virginia, in 1939 to Thomas and Violet Zinn. Jerry spent several summers at Silver Lake in West Virginia with his beloved brother Richard and extended family. Prior to attending college, Jerry served his country in the Army. Jerry attended West Virginia University studying journalism and agriculture before going to work for the U.S. Department of agriculture and Webb Publishing. From 1970 to 1992 he worked for Uniroyal Chemical, holding various positions in the Ag. Division. Traveling the world, he still found time to make every Wednesday Board of Education meeting for 17 years. Still finding time on Thursday afternoon to attend big track meets and soccer matches that his High School boys competed in.
Jerry retired and promptly flunked retirement, becoming a full-time consultant before being elected as 1st Selectman of his community. In 2003 he and his wife Judith moved to St. Augustine where he was a member of his HOA Board and longtime volunteer at the Court House and at the St. Johns County Sheriff's Department, where in 2011 he received an award for Volunteer of the year.
Jerry leaves behind his wife Judith of 63 years. He also leaves behind his sons Joel (Lisa) and Jeff (Danielle), four grandchildren, Victoria, Christina, Jack and Henry, and two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Summer. He was preceded in death by his son Jonathan.
A celebration of life will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 22 at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Litchfield.
