Oakville – Jose Rua Duque, age 79, of Oakville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Cristina (do Espirito Santos) Duque.
Mr. Duque was born May 14, 1946 in Seara Velha, Chaves, Tras-Os-Montes, Portugal, son of the late Manuel Armando and Teresa (Rua) Duque. He was retired after working as a Stone Mason for many years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury. He was a member of the Portuguese Sport Club in Waterbury, enjoyed making wine, was a soccer fan, and loved spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Cristina, Mr. Duque is survived by his children, Odet Simoes and her husband, Rogerio, of Watertown, and Noel Orlando Duque and his wife, Linda, of Prospect; his siblings, Francisco Duque of Portugal, Joaquim Duque of France, Gloria Cruz of Naugatuck, Teresa Rua of Naugatuck, and Joao Duque of Naugatuck; his 5 grandchildren, Sophia, Julia, Matteo, Orlando, and Tiago; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lurdes Lavaredas, and his brother, Julio Duque.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. There are no calling hours.
Community Funeral Home, The Corona Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 72 Waterbury Road, next to the Post Office in Prospect, is honored to be assisting Mr. Duque's family.
