Margaret C. Skilton
Margaret C. Skilton, 87, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025. She was the wife of the late Douglas Skilton.
Margaret was born in Waterbury on November 3, 1938, daughter of Michael and Pauline (Spengler). She attended Watertown High School and graduated in the class of 1956. After graduation, Peg began working as a secretary at Truelove & McLean in Waterbury, where she made lifelong friends. After her children were born, she worked at Little Brick Nursery School in Litchfield. As her children grew, she followed them and worked as a secretary at Wamogo High School in Litchfield. She loved being near her children and their friends. Family was incredibly important to Peg. She talked every day with her twin sister, even when she had spent a few hours at Mt. Tom beach with her earlier in the day. Her grandsons were the light of her life, and she spent every moment she could with them.
Peg was a devout Catholic and felt that life rested in God's hands. Peg loved all nature, but especially the ocean. The beach was her happy place and she spent hours walking on the shore, collecting shells, fishing and painting the scenery. Peg and Doug loved traveling and would visit Florida, Maine, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Block Island as often as they could. Peg could always be found outside, inspired by the trees, flowers and animals surrounding her, with her collection of water colors, to create personalized cards to send to family and friends. If she was not painting, Peg was taking pictures and creating photo albums.
Margaret is survived by her son, Joel D. Skilton, and his wife, Liesl, her daughter, Jennifer A. Skilton; her grandsons, Colby and Eli Skilton; her sister Pauline Perrett, and nephews Gary and Kevin Perrett. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas Skilton and nephew Derek Perrett.
A funeral home service will be held on Monday, December 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston. Family and friends may gather from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in East Morris Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
