Mary Dougherty Obituary

Mary Jane Dougherty
July 1, 1956 - September 26, 2025
Mary Jane Galivo Dougherty, 69, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Waterbury Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Joseph T. Dougherty for 51 years.
Mary Jane was born in Flushing, NY, on July 1, 1956, a daughter of the late Elpidio Fave and Catalina (Manzon) Galivo. She grew up in New York and was a graduate of Bishop Reilly High School in Queens, NY.
Mary Jane was passionate about volunteering. She dedicated her time to school PTAs, served as the Soccer Commissioner for the Bunker Hill Sports Association, taught CCD classes at Our Lady of Loreto Church, and was a Girl Scout Leader.
She cherished every moment spent with her family. A true puzzle enthusiast, she was rarely seen without a crossword in hand. When it came to Jeopardy!, Mary Jane was unbeatable-impressively answering question after question, often leaving her family in awe.
In addition to her beloved husband, Joe, of Waterbury, Mary Jane leaves behind her four children: Edward M. Dougherty and his wife, Kathy, of Attleboro, MA; Kathleen Raimo and her husband, Mark, of Watertown; James Christopher Dougherty of Waterbury; and Jay Dougherty of Wallingford. She also leaves behind two sisters: Belinda Geiyer and her husband, John, of Butte, MT, and Edwena Manatrizio and her husband, Joseph, of Whitestone, NY.
Mary Jane is survived by her five beloved grandchildren-Andrew Wilk and his wife Hailey, Isabella Basil, Jayden Dougherty, Ava Dougherty, and Sophia Dougherty-and her great-grandson, Eli Wilk. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Manzon Galivo.
Mary Jane's entire family would like to thank Michael Grant, MD and the staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center in Waterbury, as well as the staff at Waterbury Hospital, for the compassionate care provided throughout the past year.
Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. John the Evangelist Church, Holy Disciples Parish, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial.
