Mary J. (Scappini) (Infante) Piccolo, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Regency House Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of the late Corrideo Piccolo.
Born on August 23, 1935, in Montefiore Conca, Italy, Mary was the daughter of the late Loris and Elvira (Massari) Scappini. She worked in Janitorial Services for the City of Waterbury for over 20 years. Devout in her faith, Mary was a longtime member of the Evangelical Christian Church.
Loving, caring, and generous, Mary had no children of her own, but she adored her nieces and nephews and considered them her own. She was happiest when spending time with her family and was very social, often found on the phone chatting with relatives and her many friends. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking for those she loved, and her family especially cherished her homemade pasta, and her angel wings were simply the best.
Mary is survived by her sister Rose Santopietro of Watertown; her brother Primo Scappini and his wife Luigia of North Haven; and her nieces and nephew Rosemary Welch and her husband Marc, John Santopietro and his wife Susan, and Elvira Cleary and her husband Scott. She also leaves her step-grandson Joseph Diogostine and his wife Desirée as well as many friends. In addition to her first husband, Joseph Infante, Mary was predeceased by her stepson Robert Piccolo, her stepdaughter Joyce Thibodeau, her step-granddaughter Debbie Diogostine, and her sister Josephine Nardiello.
Mary's family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Regency House and her caretakers Judith, Paula, and Susan for the exceptional care they provided for Mary.
Mary's funeral will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to the Evangelical Christian Church, 1325 Watertown Ave., Waterbury for a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
