Funeral Allnutt Obituary

Violet Louise Dexter Hickey was born June 2, 1929. She was the youngest of 4 children born to Mary Etta and Dave H. Dexter in Rushville Nebraska. She graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1947. On June 4, 1949 she married Wiley D. Hickey. Wiley was the son of Ruth and Floyd Hickey of the Hay Springs Hotel. To this union 3 children were born. Robert, Marilou and RuthAnn. Her careers involved homemaker, and selling Avon in her home town and different retail positions. Our home was always full of kids. At least one or two would show up at lunch time from school. And she never knew who would show up after school. She loved having her children's friends around. Violet loved to go square dancing. She also loved sewing matching outfits for her and husband to go dancing in. In 1970 the Hickey family moved to Custer, South Dakota. This was their home until 1974 when Vi and her Wiley moved to Berthoud Colorado to be closer to their children. They bought a liquor store and enjoyed the small community until selling and moving to Loveland Colorado. Her interests besides her children and friends, included knitting, sewing, crocheting, gardening and canning her produce. She was a great teacher by example. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Etta and David Dexter, her brothers Francis and Lloyd, her husband of 65 years, Wiley, her son Robert, and a granddaughter Tara Hickey. Survivors include daughters Marilou Hickey and RuthAnn (Hickey) Hall and husband Larry. She is survived by granddaughter Kari Schulze, grandsons Matthew Hickey and Colton Adams. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends that she considered family. In Lieu of a Memorial service or flowers, the family request memorials in Violet's honor to be made to organizations of your choice to benefit Veterans returning home.
