Betty Jowers Fortune (Bean)

Cross Plains, TX

Betty Jowers Fortune (Bean), age 77, died Monday, September 22, 2014, with her family by her side in Abilene, Texas. Graveside services were held on Thursday, September 25th at 11 a.m. in the Burnt Branch Cemetery in Callahan County.

Betty was born on March 8, 1937, in Lohn, Texas to George and Mabel Jowers. She grew up in Cross Cut and Cross Plains with three sister and was a member of the Methodist church. She married Lewis Fortune and they had three sons who they raised in Cross Plains.

Betty was a hairdresser for many years. Her interest include family events, camping, water, skiing, gardening and bowling. Her family loved nicknames and she was known as PeeWee all of her life and enjoyed giving special nicknames to all of her grandchildren. She loved her family very much and they enjoyed lots of good times together.

Betty was a resident for the last 8 1/2 years at Care Inn in Abilene and her family would like to thank the staff there for the love and care they gave her. She always had a smile for them.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Grace McEntyere, Georgra Page and Mickey Meadows.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Steve and Angie Fortune of Cross Plains; Jerry and Debbie Fortune of Dudley; Terry and Cindy Fortune of Burkett; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was loved by many and will be missed.
