Donald "Don" Tabor

CLYDE, TX

Donald Maynard Tabor, 80, of Clyde, Texas passed away Friday August 12, 2016. Funeral service will be Monday, August 15, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Clyde at 2:00 PM, with Marvin Gregory officiating, under the direction of Bailey-Howard Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday August 14, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

Don was born August 1, 1936 to Clark Tabor and Laverne Nelson in Clyde, Texas. He was a graduate of Clyde High School and North Texas State University where he received his degree in Journalism. He married Betty Jo Patton August 25, 1957 in Clinton, Arkansas. After graduating from college he worked 18 years at the Abilene Reporter News as the editor of the evening edition.

In 1976, on his birthday, Don purchased the Clyde Journal which he owned and operated for the past 40 years. He received many press awards during his time with the newspaper business. He was past president of the Clyde Chamber of Commerce, and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clyde.

Don is survived by his wife of 58 years Betty Jo Tabor, three sons; Gil Tabor and wife Becky of Baird, Texas, Bryan Tabor and wife Susann of New Braunfels, Texas, and Danny Tabor of Clyde, Texas. One brother; Retired Major General Dale Tabor and wife Kay of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. A nephew; Russ Tabor and wife Lisa of Littleton, Colorado, niece; Jill Bell and husband Bill of Spring, Texas. Four grandchildren; Justin Tabor and wife Haley, Stephanie Davidson and husband D.J., Texas, Kyera Smith and husband Matt all of Abilene, Texas, Ashley Broadus and husband Ronnie of Clyde, Texas. 10 great grandchildren; Breland and Paisley Tabor, Joshua and Jace Davidson, Iam, Matthew Jr., Gabriel and Kaysalynn Smith, Logan and Kylie Broadus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how difficult the loss of a loved one can be. I pray that you take comfort in your friends and family and that God gives you the strength needed to get through this difficult time. God invites us to draw close him in James chapter 4 verse 8.

Don was a great man, whom I loved very much. Next year would have been 30 years that I was his employee as well as his friend. Losing him was a shock and he will be sorely missed, here at the Journal and in Clyde America.
