Doris Marie Womack, 86, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 in a local hospital. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 14th at Merkel First Baptist Church with Reverend Todd Keller and Jacky Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Doris was born March 22, 1924 in Simms to Lonnie Lee and Blanche (Martin) Smith. She married Jess Womack, and he preceded her in death in 1991. Doris was a Baptist. She was a waitress at The Nook, Po Po and the Merkel Restaurant. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening and embroidery. Doris was an immaculate housekeeper and always kept a beautiful yard. She was an avid letter writer and never forgot a birthday. She loved her family especially her grandchildren. She also loved traveling, animals and watching and feeding birds.
Survivors include 2 sons, Stanley Shaw and wife Sissy of Bandera, Glen Shaw and wife Patti of Abilene; 2 step-sons, Bobby Womack and wife Neva of Jewett, Tommy Womack and wife Jo of Jewett; 1 step-daughter, Jackie Lanier of Robert Lee; 1 brother, James Smith of Bandera; 17 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Harold Smith, Morris Smith and John Alvin Smith; her sister, Alma Phillips; her son, Jackie Lee Shaw; and her daughter, Peggy Sue Mierson.
