Martha Faye Kent Pruitt

Martha Faye Kent Pruitt, age 97, entered her heavenly home June 10, 2021 at Cogdell Hospital in Snyder, Texas. She was born September 30, 1923 near Pioneer, Texas, the oldest child of Smith and Emma (Morris) Kent. Martha married George Pruitt on July 25, 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas, one month after he returned from serving in Europe during WWII.

Martha lived a long and fulfilling life. She graduated high school in Rising Star, Texas in 1941, and later moved to Fort Worth to work in an aircraft factory doing her part in the war effort. She and George raised four children - Janette, Donna, George Anne, and Harold. Martha loved to write and had many published articles, some using the pen name Faye Talmadge. She was a long-time member of the Abilene Writers Guild.

A life-long Baptist, Martha was a devout Christian who loved Jesus and loved people. Her faith in God was evident in every area of her life. She was a Bible scholar, and taught many Sunday School classes, G.A.s, and Bible studies. She never tired of reading the Bible and commented a few months before her death that she was studying for her "finals"!

Martha had the gift of hospitality and made everyone feel loved and welcome in her home and family. She was a favorite aunt of her many nieces and nephews. She and George lived most of their lives in Hamlin, Texas, moving to Snyder in 2008 to live with their daughters. They both loved to travel, visiting nearly every state and going on several cruises.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years in 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her daughters Janette Groat and Donna Pruitt, her grandson George Kent Groat, and her great-great grandson Waylon Quested. She was preceded in death by her sister Melba Cathey and her brother Hershel Kent.

Martha is survived by her son Harold and wife Kathy Pruitt of Runaway Bay, Texas, her daughter George Anne and husband Mike Brown of Snyder, her grandchildren Scott and Dana Groat, Martha (Marti) and Ward Baze, Sarah and Travis (Will) Inman, Roy and Ruthie Brown, and Micah and Christopher Bluto. She is survived by 20 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Hamlin, Texas, Monday, June 14, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Hamlin cemetery. Friends and family are also welcome to visit with the family Sunday, June 13 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin.
