Michael Ervin Sadler
Abilene - Michael Ervin Sadler, 73, of Abilene, TX, passed away at home June 20, 2021.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 am at University Church of Christ with Bradley Steele Officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield, Texas. The family will receive friends for a viewing and visitation on Friday, June 25 from 6:00-8:00 pm also at University Church of Christ. Services are under the care of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home.
Michael was born on May 18, 1948 in Amherst, Texas to the late Floyd Ervin and Josephine (Hawkins) Sadler. Raised on a cotton farm outside of Lubbock, Michael earned a B.S. in Engineering at Texas Tech. Afterward, he moved to Bloomington, IN, where he met his soon-to-be bride, Virginia Joyce Gustafson (married 1973), and earned an MS and a PhD in physics from Indiana University. Michael completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA, where he began his career as a research scientist. He continued at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Michael settled at Abilene Christian University, where he worked and taught for 40 years. During his career, Mike received the American Physical Society's Prize for Research in an Undergraduate Institution (1995), as well as two Fullbright Scholarships to conduct research in Russia and then Bosnia.
Michael was an active member of the American Physical Society, the Rotary Club of Abilene, and University Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Josephine Sadler. Michael is survived by his wife, Ginna Sadler; his daughters Lela Thorne and her husband, Colin, Laura Tittsworth and her husband, John Mark; grandchildren, Mavry, Eliel, Julissa, Wesley, Curtis, and Evelyn; his brother Stan Sadler and his wife Carol; his sister Marla Bullock and her husband, John; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Donations in Michael's honor can be made to the Christian Service Center or to Christian Homes and Family Services, both of Abilene.
