Rufus J. Edmond

Abilene

Rufus J. Edmond, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at The Oaks at Radford Hills. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2012, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1226 Oak Street with Pastor L.W. Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Abilene Municipal Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Abilene Funeral Home, 3349 N. 12th Street.

Rufus was born September 26, 1931, in Cason, Texas. He worked for the Petroleum Club and Abilene Regional Medical Center (aka Humana) for thirty years. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy football fan. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where he was a deacon.

Survivors include two daughters, Deatrice "Dee" Edmond and Debra Starks-Mack, both of Abilene; a son, Lonzie Starks, Sr. of Abilene; an adoptive son, Rodney Jackson of Irving, Texas; a sister, Betty Jenkins of Abilene; 6 grandchildren, Corey Mack of Austin, Texas, Lonzie Starks, Jr., Jerome Starks, Lisha Starks, Lotoya Starks and Carmen Starks, all of Abilene; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and great grandchildren.

Rufus was preceded in death by his wife, Freddie M. Starks Edmond; his parents, Jim Edmond and Estella Trailor Edmond; six brothers, Earnest Edmond, Goree Edmond, James Edmond, Lee Edmond, Buford Edmond and Hughie Edmond; two sisters, Ola Edmond and Wortha Mae Woods; and a grandson, Natosh Boyd.
