Matthew Davidson Obituary

Matthew Kevan Davidson was born to Eugene and Eleanor (Kevan) Davidson on July 14th, 1970 in Staunton, Virginia. He was preceded in death by both his mother and his father, and survived by his brother Mark, Mark's wife and children, and his youngest brother Luke. He was the oldest of the three boys that were born to Eugene and Eleanor, and was followed by Mark and Luke. Eugene wanted the boys to be named after the four Gospels in the Bible, and almost fully realized that goal.

Eugene had two girls named Irene and Frances, the older sisters of the three boys, who were raised by their grandparents in Texas. They had a close bond with their sisters, though they lived separately from them for most of their lives. At one point, Matthew and Mark lived with Irene, and then Matthew lived with Frances later in life.

The family moved around quite a bit as the kids were growing up. They moved to Oklahoma, where Mark was born. They then moved to Arizona, and again to California in 1982, when Luke was born. Luke was adopted by another family in California, and after a short stint in the Austin, TX area with Irene, the Davidsons moved to Nashville, TN where Matthew and Mark grew up.

It was in Nashville that Matthew became a devout Christian, and attended churches in the Baptist traditions. When Mark met his wife Diana, who grew up in Rigby, he moved across the country to marry her, and Matthew shortly followed. That was in 2007, and Matthew has lived in Rexburg ever since.

You may know Matt as the guy who walks all over Rexburg, or plays various types of flutes and recorders, or as the big jolly guy at Walmart behind the customer service desk. Matthew worked in both of the Rexburg Walmart stores for nearly the entire time he lived here. It was there that he really began meeting people in this community, and becoming friends with so many people.

Matthew always greeted customers and friends with a corny joke, and he became known for his particular brand of humor. He reached out to his co-workers and friends with love and concern when they were hurting or sad, and he often gave more of himself than he had to give.

Matthew was a member of the Grace Baptist Church here in Rexburg for many years, along with his mother, Eleanor, who passed away in June of this year. Everyone in Rexburg who knew Matt, and there are so many, knew that Matthew had a strong faith in Jesus, and he was always happy to share his faith by word and deed.

When Matthew passed away, friends and colleagues went to social media in droves to express their love and appreciation for him. Hundreds of lives in this town were touched by Matthew, and he will be sorely missed. He is no longer in the pain and suffering which gripped him in his final days, and he is on his way to Eternity with Jesus. He would be most honored by his friends and loved ones thinking of him there in Heaven, rather than morning his graduation from this life.

A Memorial Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Grace Baptist Church in Rexburg, Idaho. Condolences may be submitted online at www.flammfh.com.

May the God of comfort bring the family peace.

Matt was and is a heck of a guy. I got to know Matt years ago, and had many fun conversations with him about traveling, bagpipes, work, and family. I was privileged enough to hear him play his bagpipes once and was extremely impressed! Matt had a way about him that moved people, and drew you in. I never heard him say a mean thing. When I think about what it would be to be Christ like, I believe Matt to be a fine example. Matt always did his best in every situation that faced him with a smile, and perfectly exemplified being a friend to all. Matt never dwelled on the negative, and always greeted you with a hello and your name. Matt, you will be missed my friend. Peace be with you
