Seth Evans Obituary
Seth Parker Evans, 80, passed away at his home April 26, in Black Canyon City, Ariz. of a heart attack. He was born in Rexburg Jan. 11, 1932, to Jesse Partrington Evans and Sylvia Mae Parker Evans.
He attended school in Rexburg and graduated from Madison High School in the class of 1950. He attended Utah State College before he served a mission to the Eastern Canada Mission.
After returning home he attended Ricks College, which was a four-year school at the time. He graduated with the last four-year graduating class at Ricks in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in science, economics and accounting. He was awarded a master's degree in those fields at the University of Utah and became a certified public accountant.
He taught accounting and was on the ground floor of establishing the data processing program at Phoenix City College in Phoenix, Ariz. His teaching career there lasted from 1958 to 2002 for a total of 44 years. He made a difference in the lives of thousands of students who enrolled in his classes.
He was a partner at Norman and Evans Accounting, Inc., where the principal account was the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
In 1955, he married Shirley Hyde of Downey in the Logan LDS Temple. They had one son and three daughters. Through the Indian Placement Program of the LDS Church, they were foster parents for three foster daughters and one foster son.
Seth had a ready smile, an infectious laugh, a quick wit and a sense of humor.
His hobbies were fishing, gardening, woodworking and construction. He built a summer home in the mountains near Bayfield, Colo., where his family spent the summer months. The cabin sat on a hillside, exposed to rough landscape and boulders. Despite the terrain, Seth figured out a way to overcome the challenges he encountered in completing the cabin. He also built greenhouses for his daughter and son-in-law's horticulture business and completed many other building projects for family members. Following his retirement, he enjoyed playing computer games. He had a great love of the outdoors.
As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many positions. These positions included stake clerk over auditing, Boy Scout leader (A calling he held for 20 years), High Priest Group leadership and superintendent of Sunday School.
