Vaughn Hunter Obituary

Vaughn Maynard Hunter, 86, our beloved husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, of Lewisville, died Feb. 5, 2008, at his home with his family, from natural causes incident to age.
Vaughn was born April 25, 1921, in Lewisville to Maud Arminda Maynard and Gilbert Walker Hunter.
He grew up in Lewisville and graduated from Midway High School in 1939. During high school, he served as the student body president and excelled in athletics. He attended Ricks College.
He served in the United States Navy for two years, serving in the Philippines during World War II.
On May 20, 1943, he married LaRue Rigby in the Salt Lake City LDS temple.
He farmed in Lewisville and was a very successful businessman and land developer.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young man, he served a mission to the Eastern States. Later, he served another mission with his wife, on the Salt River Reservation in Arizona. He also served as a bishop, high councilor, temple officiator in the Idaho Falls LDS temple and was a great teacher of the gospel.
He sang with the Lewisville Quartet and various ward choirs and other choral groups. He loved to travel with LaRue all around the world. He loved to tell jokes and play games with family and friends. He and LaRue really knew how to celebrate Christmas.
Vaughn loved LaRue, his eternal companion and sweetheart.
He is survived by his wife, LaRue Rigby of Lewisville; daughters Cheryl H. (Sheldon) Nelson of Provo, Utah, Janet H. (Gordon) Timothy of Rexburg, Jolene H. (Dee) Stoker of Lewisville, Karen H. (Steven) Black of Provo, Utah, Becky H. (Edwin) Lind of Provo, Utah; brother Ted (Jane Ann) Hunter of Logan, Utah; sister-in-law Nona Hunter of Lewisville; 27 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; brother Reed; sisters Ruth and Beverly Jean; and grandson Clinton H. Black.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at the Lewisville 1st Ward, 101 E. Main St. in Lewisville, with Bishop James Gneiting officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at the church, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment will be at the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary.

Dear Aunt LaRue and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We appreciate Uncle Vaughn's life and celebrate with you the great legacy he has left behind. A favorite memory of Uncle Vaughn was when we had Thanksgiving dinner at your house for all the Rigbys. You two were such a great team in the kitchen. Aunt LaRue cooking and Uncle Vaughn cleaning up right after. The love and admiration for each other has always been evident. I know you will miss your sweet companion! We love you.

We love and appreciate your family as we have been able to associate with you all for many wonderful years. We have celebrated many neat and great family occasions with you. Becky is such a wonderful daughter-in-law to us and wife to Ed and mother of their family.
We congratulate Vaughn for his noble life and know he is still anxiously accomplishing more great works.
We express our love and sympathy and mourn with you at this time of special sad blessing.
We have contributed to the Perpetual Education Fund as recently suggested by our new beloved Prophet.
