Austin Barnes Obituary

Austin McCanless Barnes

Sparks - It is with a heavy heart that our family announces the unexpected passing of our beloved son, Austin McCanless Barnes, age 26, on Monday, January 25th, 2021 at Renown Hospital following the battle of his life with Bacterial Pneumonia that turned into MRSA. It seems like just yesterday that Austin was born at the same hospital on December 13th, 1994.

Austin was a very gifted athlete. He loved playing football, starting with Sparks Pop Warner in 2003 and moved up to the SYFL in Junior High. His teams went to the championship several years in a row, and he also played on the All-Star teams in the SYFL. In Junior High, Austin excelled in track & field and competed in the high hurdles, relay races, and won the high jump for the school track meet in his 8th grade. Austin also loved skiing and snowboarding and participated in the Junior Ski Program for many years. He was invited to compete on the Mt. Rose Falcons Ski Race Team, which he participated for one season. Above all, skateboarding was his favorite pastime, and he would spend hours practicing his tricks. As Austin matured, he found new passions in cooking, painting, and fly fishing. There must be something to being left-handed, as Austin was very creative, with a blossoming talent for drawing and painting. Austin loved spending time with his friends and was always there when his friends needed him - "Doug's Fly Together." Austin will be sorely missed by his family and friends. We will love you forever!

Austin was preceded in death by his Grandparents Robert and Violet Barnes, and Richard and Lorraine Dailey.

Austin is survived by his parents Candice Barnes-Hinman (Rusty Hinman), Scott Barnes (Yann Ling-Barnes), his sister Clarissa Barnes (Trevor Jordan), step brother Alex Hinman, his Aunt Patty Balogh (Dieter Balogh), his Uncle Harold Barnes (Linda Barnes), cousins Chris Harvey (Ashley Frkovich), Justin Barnes (Christina Barnes), Thomas Barnes (Allie Barnes), and numerous nieces.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, February 5th, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Walton's Funerals & Cremations - Sparks, 1745 Sullivan Lane, Sparks, NV. Because of COVID restrictions, attendance will be limited to 50 people at any one time. Please come and wish Austin a fond farewell - "Doug's Fly Together." A Celebration of Life will be held later this spring or summer.

Hardly a day passes that I don´t think about you. I hope you are OK in heaven and know how much you are missed. Life sometimes cheats us and with that being said I believe God needed you. Your kindness and big heart is needed more in heaven then with us. For ever missed and loved Aunt Patty

It´s been one year since your passing. Hardly a day passes that I do not think about you. Our hearts will never be whole as they are broken since you died. Your mom has said you have visited her and you told her you are OK. I believe you are OK and I pray you know we miss you and love you forever.

Austin, you are do deeply missed. My heart is with you and your family.

I was so lucky to have my best friend right across the street, growing up.

I’ll never forget all the times we shared; from skating every hour of of the day, building dirt jumps for ours bikes, and finding other new and exciting ways to hurt ourselves (sorry, parents). To exploring the neighborhood, which soon after turned into the entire town (forcing our parents to get us cellphones pretty early on, since I think they got tired of receiving calls from random pay phones from their kids and their friends who somehow managed to make it 15 miles across town on their bikes). These are memories I will hold forever. We grew, we lived, and we learned. I just wish we could continue to do so.

Your friendship was and always will be dear to my heart.

Rest In Peace, my friend.
I’ll think of you often.
