Celia Abraham Obituary

Celia

ABRAHAM

On February 26, 2008, Celia Alice Malamen Abraham lost her difficult, yet courageous, battle with cancer. Celia was born on March 11, 1922 in Dawson, ND, to George and Clara Malamen, immigrants from Russia who had a total of ten children. In 1935, the family moved to Minnesota and Celia worked in concert with her siblings on the family farm that produced vegetables for the local community.

Celia graduated from Anoka High School in 1940 and soon after moved to California where she worked for the government in an administrative position in support of World War II. She met her husband, Dale Abraham, on a blind date on December 31, 1949; on April 22, 1950 they were married and enjoyed life together until Dale's passing on November 9, 2006. They had four children and raised their family in Hayward, CA.

Celia was a quiet pioneer of working mothers and had a tremendous capacity to balance family life and career. She worked full time as a Logistics Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration and was promoted to a position in Reno, NV in 1978. She and Dale relocated to Reno and she joined him in retirement in 1984. Celia's passion was her love and support of her family. She enjoyed the beach, country music, gardening, visiting with friends, and taking care of her family.

Celia is survived by her children, Dennis (Stacie), Carol, Susan (Royce), and Darryl (Karen); her grandchildren, Tricia (Jason), Lyndsay (Nathan), Eric, Ryan, Kayla and Whitney; great-grandchildren, Madisyn and Benjamin; her sisters, Pauline, Martha and Vera; sisters-in-law, Zola, Lorraine and Ruth; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 14, 2008, 1 p.m., Lord of Mercy Church, 3400 Pyramid Way, Sparks, NV. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Celia's memory to:

Hospice of Northern Nevada

520 West Sixth Street

Reno, NV 89503
Lord of Mercy Lutheran Church

3400 Pyramid Way

Sparks, NV 89431

She will be most remembered for her gentle ways, quiet strength, giving nature, and warm sense of humor.

So many great memories of Mrs. Abraham flood back. She was a wonderful mother and aunt to many of my very favorite, oldest friends.

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

Aunt Ce brought nothing but joy to my life--except for the one and only hair permanent I received from her when I was in the third grade, that was a disaster! I will always appreciate the love and caring shown to me by Aunt Ce and Uncle Dale, and especially appreciate being included on some of their family's adventurous water- and snow-skiing trips. I'm lucky that they were my godparents.

So sorry to hear of Ce's passing. I will always remember her help and kindness when I was a very young mother with my oldest daughter Monica. She is with the angels now.

My grandmother never lost her cutting egde. I'll never forget when I was sitting in a college lecture at UCSC and my friends asked me who I was talking to on AOL Instant Messenger. I turned to them and said, "My Grandma". She is loved and missed.

Aunt Ce certainly was loving and giving, and her sense of humor was amazing. She was someone I always admired, and absolutely one of the best things about my childhood. I miss her already.
