Clark Walker Obituary

Clark Allen Walker

October 15, 1935

March 28, 2014

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Sparks, Nevada at the age of 78, as a result of pancreatic cancer. He was born to Grow and Nedra Walker on October 15, 1935 in Lyman, Wyoming. He graduated from Lyman High School, and in 1954, he volunteered for the draft and was sent to Chemical Warfare School in Ft. McClellan, Alabama. After his honorable discharge he enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he graduated with a degree in Business Education and Office Management. He married Rucelle Heder and they had five children (later divorced). On October 13, 1979, he married the love of his life, Paula Dreeke, and they began a 34 year romance.

Clark spent his early years on a ranch in Wyoming, he loved the outdoors and always kept a bit of the cowboy way. He loved to read and continue to learn. He loved his family dearly, and felt it important to always be teaching them ways to avoid the pitfalls of life.

Clark worked in management for several years and then became a successful business owner with two "Recycled Furniture" stores in the Reno/Sparks area. He proudly retired after 50 years.

His avocation and real passion came during retirement when he became an investment and retirement planning advocate. He offered his advice freely and delighted in helping young people begin saving for their retirement. Clark brought smiles and laughter wherever he went, with his hats, sayings on his shirts and upbeat, silly personality he was welcomed with open arms and often greetings of "here comes trouble!". He was truly a one of a kind and will be dearly missed.

Clark is survived by his Wife, Paula, a son Russ (Lori) Walker; twin daughters, Lisa Walker, and Lana Martin; a son Michael Walker; and daughter Lori (John) Watson. He had five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Walton's Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd St. in Reno .

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

Russ, Lisa, Lana, MIchael, and Lori, so sorry to hear about your father. I remember when we first met, I asked what your father's name was. Either Lisa or Lana (I cannot remember which) said, "Clock. You know, like on the wall?" Or maybe that's just what I thought in my head. Who knows how 4-year-olds think. :-) I also remember how he used to take us up to Lake Tahoe, and we would ride in the back of the pick-up truck--so fun even though it's not legal now. And one time we went camping at Dog Valley, and he explained that you could eat pine tree sap like chewing gum. I guess I have some pretty random memories about him, but he was always kind to me. My condolences go to you five and to Paula.

Clark was a wonderful, funny, friendly man. He always made me laugh with his jokes. He was great to my son Anthoney and would come pick him up and take him and Zane for ice cream or to do stuff. He will be missed!
