Dod Pittman Obituary

Dod Pittman

Dod Pittman, of Reno, Nevada a longtime resident, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2017 at Saint Mary's Hospital. He was born on March 8, 1952 in Pioche, Nevada. He was 65 years young. Dod and his family moved many times in his younger days. The family lived in Eastgate, Nevada while he was growing up.

In 1955, the family moved to Mt Rose, a short distance from Sky Mountain Tavern in Reno.

In 1963, he moved to Reno with his mother. She died on March 24th 2012. His father was Donald Lee Pittman and was a hard rock miner, and died a few years before his mother.

He is also survived by cousins; Rita, Joy, Step sons John Dickens, Matthew Dickens. Also many distant relatives living in Australia. Studied at University of Nevada, Reno, He was single at his time of death, but shared many memories with his loving wives.

He was an active member in the community; an owner of Port of Subs, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, board member of Step One, Steadfast Inc., Summerport Inc., and Destiny Christian Church in Reno.

He visited many countries and in 2006. His mother and he visited South America. He shared many stories about his travels always full of interesting tales and optimism on life.

Dod ask me to give you a message. He would like to let you know that his work here is done. He received a call, a sort of an offer you can't refuse, for an appointment from which He will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with God and Jesus, and family and friends he has not seen in a long time. As he would say it was a beautiful program, a God plan, made up of progress, not perfection. Memories of Dod when he stepped into a new life became a Christian and active in serving others, His smiling way and pleasant face a pleasure to recall, He had a kindly word for each and all. God saw Dod's road was getting rough and hills were hard to climb, so he closed his weary eyelids and whispered peace be with you it is time to come home. Peacefully sleeping, resting at last, the world weary trouble and trials are past. In silence he suffered, in patience he bore, till God called him home to suffer no more. For those of you who knew Dod, you will not be surprised that I did not want a funeral, just a simple celebration of life. It will be held at his church, Destiny Christian Center, 255 Bell Street Reno, on November 12th at 3:00 pm.

However, I would ask each and every one of you who read this obituary as I looked over Dods e-mails over the last years to consider the following: per Dod (1) Take great joy in each day you live. (2) Hold the ones you love dearly and tell them why they are special. Life is short. Take each day with renewed joy and find great pleasure in the simple things of life! Like a good laugh, a smile or a hug. There is a road map for living that leads to a spiritual awakening and beyond. Take each day one day at a time.

I was so honored to know Dod. Every time I saw him he had a warm and loving greeting for me, and it was clear that he genuinely loved people. His willingness to be of service in his community is an example to us all of selflessness and love. He will be greatly missed, but I know that his spirit lives on in paradise.

1963 Dod Pitman moved into the Silverada subdivision where to this day my parents still live.
Life was good in the "HOOD", and we were the first Hug High Graduates.
He drove an Austin Mini Cooper and I an Austin Healey 3000.
Over a period of 50 years, Dod and I would make connection. Life has many surprises.
Rest in Peace my friend, Life is made better by friends like you. You will be missed Dod. Thanks for knowing you, David Davidow
