Dorothy McMurry, 88, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 11, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, she was born July 8, 1925, the daughter of Robert and Glynn (Stark) Anderson. The family later moved to San Francisco where she met her beloved husband, Ernie, with whom she recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Dorothy was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 34 years and after retirement enjoyed living in San Carlos, California, Incline Village, and Gold Canyon, Arizona. She had a wonderful sense of humor, kind nature, and positive attitude. Her final years were spent in Reno to be closer to her family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters, Virginia and Katharine. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ernie; daughter Joan Schulte (Dan), son Bob McMurry (San Carlos), and her grandchildren Kimberly Diegle (David), Kristen, Jason, and Callie.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Five Star Premiere Residence and Gentiva Hospice for their kindness and compassion. Services will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 West Second St., Reno. Private interment will follow at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, and because of the compassionate care Dorothy received, the family requests that she be remembered with a donation in her name to Gentiva Hospice, 1625 E.
