PETERS

Floyd Charles Peters passed away August 18, 2008 at age 72 from complications of Alzheimer's. He was born in Iowa and raised in Martinez, CA. He attended San Francisco State and was a Little All-American in Football and the first person drafted into the NFL from this school. He played 12 seasons (1959-1970) playing for the Browns, Lions, Eagles and Redskins as a left defensive tackle. He was selected to three Pro Bowls and voted outstanding lineman in the 1966 Pro Bowl. After a brief stint as a stock broker, he returned to NFL, coaching from 1974-1996. During this span he was defensive line coach for the Giants, Niners and Lions and then as defensive coordinator for the Cardinals, Vikings and Buccaneers, finishing his career as defensive line coach for the Raiders in 95 and 96. He spent his 12 years of retirement in Reno.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy, and his sons, Craig, Kelly, Dean and Allen. He was an honest and hard working man who was extremely loyal to his family and the game of football. He will be truly missed.

Nancy, Craig, Kelly, Dean and Allen,
It was great to see you all and celebrate the impressive life of your dad, my uncle. He's truly an example of strength in every sense of the word. I feel privileged to have known your dad and to be part of your family. You are all carrying your father's legacy well and I know he's proud of you!

I came close twice to meeting Floyd - once in San Diego when he was with the Lions and once in Oakland when he was with the Vikings. I enjoyed following his careers - both as a player and as a coach ever since my Dad told me we were related. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
