Gilbert Minedew Obituary

Gilbert Daniel "Dan" Minedew

Dec. 20,1934

Oct. 20, 2013

Gilbert D. Minedew was born December 20, 1934 and passed October 20, 2013. In spirit he was in his favorite duck hunting blind, #9 on Big Freeman watching the sunrise at the Canvasback Gun Club.

Dan Minedew was a third generation Native Nevadan, coming from a pioneering Gold Hill mining family. His father was Gilbert Joseph Minedew and mother Gwendolyn Daniel Minedew. Dan was born in Reno, NV and attended Mt. Rose, Billinghurst and Reno High Schools. He then attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles, California receiving a degree in accounting. Dan and his wife Mickie Hickman Minedew were fortunate to have their daughter, Debra Louise Minedew, born at this time.

Dan returned to Reno and following his profession, worked for the State of Nevada, Semenza & Kottinger, and Kafoury & Armstrong. He then formed his own company, Dan Minedew and Company and practiced as a Public Accountant and Federal Bankruptcy Trustee for many years. During these years, Dan and Mickie were blessed with the arrival of the son, Lynn Daniel Minedew.

Dan was a De Molay, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Thirty Second Degree Master Mason of Washoe Lodge #35, and a Kerak Shriner. Dan was also a member of the Canvasback Duck Club and was a true "Canvasback Gunny." He especially enjoyed sharing the Duck Cabin with his son Lynn and grandson Robert and was instrumental in starting a tradition of hunting that will last for generations within his family. He was a longtime member of the Reno Municipal Band. His maternal grandmother Tegwin James Daniel built a cabin at Lake Tahoe in Zephyr Cove, NV, and in his early years he enjoyed boating, water skiing and fishing at the "Lake House."

Danny was a very generous, loving and caring person and all who knew him enjoyed his gregarious personality and counsel.

Dan was predeceased by his parents Gilbert and Gwendolyn Minedew and wives Mickie Minedew and Patti Minedew. He is survived by his daughter Debbie (Rick) Effenberger, son Lynn (Shelley) Minedew, grandsons Robert (Tina) McDanial, and Bill (Kelli) McDaniel, granddaughter Holly (Hunter) Benedetti, brother Dave (Sunny) Minedew, nephew Christ (Julie) Minedew, grandnephews Benton and Nathan Minedew, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Darlene Evans, who he held very dear to his heart.

A funeral service for all will be held at Waltons Funeral Home in Reno, NV on Thursday, October 24th, 2013 at 12:00pm and a graveside service following at Masonic Memorial Gardens.

I was in Dan's class at Reno High School. Always a gentleman, he was one of the "good guys" and well liked by everyone of us in the class. I know he will be much missed by a loving family and also my all those of us who knew him then and remember him with great fondness.

Lynn so sorry for your loss. Your father rocked. I am glad I asked about him before I left because you were so excited to take your dad duck hunting.
