Helen Carrico Obituary

Helen Rose Carrico (Weishar), 95 of Reno, NV peacefully passed away at home on March 14, 2017.
Helen was was born in Bowdle, South Dakota April 17, 1921 to George and Clara Weishar (Schmidt) and grew up with an older brother Clarence and younger brother George who preceded her in death. They moved to Ipswich, South Dakota where Helen graduated from high school. Helen excelled at sports and was on the girls' basketball team.
In support of the war effort, Helen moved to Washington, DC where she worked in the Policy and Planning Section of the Department of the Army. She was swept off her feet at a GSO dance by her future husband, John Lee Carrico who preceded her in death. They were married December 27, 1945. They lived in Alpine and El Paso, Texas before moving to Reno, Nevada in 1959.
Helen was a lifelong student who graduated from the University of Nevada at Reno with a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies in her 70s. She was a talented seamstress, a devoted bridge player, and loved to travel, taking music tours to Europe with her husband for over 20 years. Helen loved singing with the St. Thomas choir and Regina Pacis Cantorum, She also enjoyed dancing with the Kickers for many years. Helen was always up for an adventure whether skiing, entering in the Mrs. Nevada beauty contest, or shopping in Hong Kong. Helen is survived by her four children John Jr., Patty, Brian, and Renée as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Carmel of Reno, 1950 La Fond Dr, Reno, at 10:00am March 25th with a reception immediately after. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to a favorite charity or the UNR Jazz Festival.
