Jack Bream Obituary

Jack (SPOKE) Bream

Jan. 6, 1932

Nov. 15, 2017

On November 15th, Jack C (SPOKE) Bream went to the Showers. Born in Ely, Nevada on January 6th 1932, the first of three children, Jack attended Reno High School and was in the last class of students that attended Reno High School before it moved to it's present location on Booth St., placing him in the first class to graduate from the new location in 1951. Jack was a member of the state championship basketball team for 1949-1950. During the game against the Sparks Rail Roaders, Jack scored an impressive 15 points to be the high scorer for the game! The following game against the Winnemucca Buckaroos, he would score 19 points for his best of the year, He was also on the 1949-50 baseball team and showed "PROWESS "! While he was a good basketball player, Jack's first love was baseball. He volunteered right out of high school for the Navy and served from 1951 to 1955. A Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he didn't speak much about his service.

Upon his return to Reno, he applied for work in two different career fields, a bank employee, and the other a sheet metal worker. The sheet metal workers union called first and he followed in his father's footsteps. Jack was a lifelong union member of Local Union 26, where he worked for 32 years. After his retirement from sheet metal, he would work as a delivery person for Jensen Precast and a security guard for the Eldorado. Jack was an avid golfer and a member of the Northern Nevada Seniors Golf Club; He lived with his high school girlfriend Ruth McNealy for a period before her passing. He then moved in with his son Russ Bream and daughter in-law Susan, where he remained until he went to the "SHOWERS" He was very fond of Susan and would talk with her for hours.

Jack had a quirky sense of humor and was often quoted for saying things that made people laugh. Supportive in many ways, Jack could be counted on when needed. He was the patriarch for the family, a man to respect and a dad that is dearly loved. His legacy lives on in his son Russell C Bream Sr, Susan L Bream daughter-in-law, sister Carol Bream of Washoe Valley, 4 grandchildren; Russell C. Bream Jr, Eric M. Bream, Tiffany R. Bream and Nathaniel P. Bream, all of Reno. He was preceded by his father Wilmore R (DUTCH) Bream, mother Thelma (Oxborrow) Bream and brother Jere R. Bream.
