James "Jim" G. Bourie, 70, of Crozet, Va and Reno, Nv. passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon Oct. 7, 2016.
Jim was born in Waterbury, Conn to Regina Klonis and James W. Bourie Sr. He graduated from Bryant College in 1966 with a degree in business administration. In 1966, he voluntarily entered service in the United States Army. He was assigned a parachute infantryman to the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment with the elite 101st Airborne Division, known as the "Screaming Eagles". While with the 101st, Jim served two tours in Vietnam (1967 - 69) where he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal and the rank of staff sergeant. After service, Jim attended the International School of Law at George Washington University, earning his juris doctorate. Jim successfully built and ran James G. Bourie Financial Strategies, his own financial planning advising company until his death.
Throughout his life, Jim was an avid golfer and fly fisherman. He later found passion for ballroom dancing, winning numerous local and state competions, and fox hunting, becoming a member of Farmington Hunt Club in Va., and Red Rock Hounds in Reno.
Jim was know for his larger-than-life personality, sharp and playful wit, and boundless generosity. Friends will remember him best for his flamboyant ensembles and sartorial splendor.
Jim is survived by his beloved Jo (Waller) of Reno whom he met while attending a Screaming Eagles reunion in Reno, sons James of Alexandria, Va., and Porter of Washington, D.C.
As per his wishes, Jim will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
A remembrance was held at his family home in Crozet, Va., Oct. 15. The family requests donations may be made in Jim's name to the Screaming Eagle Support Program of the Screaming Eagle Foundation. www.screamingeaglefoundation.org
