Resident of Danville

June McKnight Mercer passed away on July 3rd after a long battle with a blood disease. June was born on June 7, 1937 in Modesto, CA, the daughter of Ottie O. McKnight and Georgia Morris McKnight. June graduated from Reno High School in Reno, NV and University of Oregon, where she was an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority. June taught school in San Jose, CA prior to marrying James D. Mercer of Burlingame, CA, on December 16, 1961 in Reno, NV. After their wedding, June and Jim settled in Palo Alto, CA where June taught at Ensinal School in the Menlo Park School District. In 1964, June and Jim took a year to travel the world. After their adventures, they settled in Contra Costa County, where June worked as a Reading Specialist for the Walnut Creek School District. June and Jim raised their family in Lafayette, before building a home in Alamo in 1991 and eventually moving to Danville in 2006.

June enjoyed travelling, entertaining and spending time with family and friends at the cabin in Tahoe. Known as "Nana" to many, she was a constant presence on the sidelines and in the audience at her grandchildren1s many activities. She was active in the community, and especially enjoyed her involvement with her investment group (SMARTS).

June is survived by her husband, James D. Mercer; her daughter, Heidi Mercer Melin and son-in-law Barry Melin of Danville; her son, Todd Christopher Mercer and daughter-in-law julie Colbert Mercer of Orinda; four grandchildren Mason Melin, Sydney Melin, Courtney Mercer and Claire Mercer; her sister Gladys McKnight Burns and brother-in-law RE Burns Jr. of Elko, NV, nieces, Lynda Burns, Susan Burns Gilbert, Michele Mercer Probert, Laura Mercer and nephew R.
