Leroy Phoenix Obituary

Leroy Phoenix, 82, died peacefully at home in Sutcliffe, Nevada, on August 15, 2015. He was born at Pyramid Lake, Nevada to Andrew and Lucille Phoenix.
He was a graduate of Fernley High School where he lettered in basketball and football. Soon after graduating, Leroy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (Semper Fi), where he served as an AAA gunner during the Korean War. When he returned to Pyramid Lake after his military service, he began his career in Law Enforcement, beginning with the Reno Police Department, the Carson Police Department, the Fallon Police Department and ending his law enforcement career with the BIA.
Leroy worked several years as a casino security guard at MGM, Bally's and the Hilton where he made several life long friends.
Leroy owned and operated his small cattle ranch for several years until he was unable to buck bails in his 70's.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of 48 years, son Leroy II and wife Doreena, daughters Debra and husband Leo, Holly and Husband Mike, Lola and husband Jon. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; his dog April. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Lucille, children Julie, Ronnie, Denise, Jackie, Marc and Chris, brother Floyd, sister Velda.

A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 10:00 am at Nixon Cemetery, Nixon, NV. Flowers may be sent to Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno, NV 89502 by Friday, August 21, 2015.
