Michael Newman Obituary
Michael Emmet
NEUMAN
Michael Emmet Neuman, 58, died on January 27, 2010 unexpectedly from natural causes at his home.
Mike was born the youngest child of Dr. and Mrs. (Lee Riley) E. W. Neuman in Helena, MT on May 10, 1951. He graduated with honors from Carroll College in Helena, MT where he was elected to the Alpha Kappa chapter of the Lambda Lota Tau Society. Upon graduation he put on his backpack and spent six months traveling through Europe. He then returned to school and pursued a master's degree in Public Administration at the Montana State University and the University of Oregon.
Mike worked as district and regional director in MT, WY, and CO for the Jerry Lewis Foundation providing services and support to children and families with muscular dystrophy. The sick, disabled, and marginalized always had a special place in his heart.
In 1992 he moved with his family from Boulder, Colorado to Reno to work as Western Regional Director of Gehring Products Inc. which specializes in environmental protection products. In recent years he pursued his interest in healing becoming a serious homeopathic practitioner caring for both animals and people with health issues.
Mike married his best friend, Marilyn on August 15, 1992. Marilyn and their son, Thomas Corson survive him. He is also survived by brothers John, Edward, and Dennis and their families of Bozeman, MT. His nieces, nephews, and stepson were a significant part of his life. Mike loved them as though each was his very own and they, like his whole family, loved him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike will be remembered affectionately for his intense love of life, a free spirit that exuded remarkable energy with an Irish wit, a naturalist deeply in love with and concerned about the earth, a scholar who seriously pursued his life long passion for history, philosophy, literature, politics, music and travel. His singing voice was a true gift which he shared with his family, the St. Helena Cathedral boys choir, and the Carrollers at Carroll College. He enjoyed nothing more than a long, long conversation on any topic of his expertise, a day on the river fly-fishing with his brothers and nephews, or being at home with his beloved wife, Marilyn. Then there were his dogs, Scooter and Reggie. Terriers of course! How he loved them, too.
A memorial for Mike will be celebrated in Bozeman, MT. Arrangements are pending. Memorials in his name may be made to the Sierra Club or to the Dr. E. W. Neuman Scholarship Foundation, Carroll College Helena, Montana.
