Myrna Dunn Obituary

Myrna Loy Dunn

1931-2017

Born in Monrovia California Myrna was the daughter of Parley (Snowball) and Alice Lauder. Our mother lived an extraordinary life that began from the humblest beginnings in the midst of the great depression. Her father worked on large government dam projects as a skilled steam shovel and crane operator. He moved the family from project to project to support his family. Myrna's family lived near and contributed to the construction of the nations largest dams including Grand Coulee Dam, and Hoover Dam. As an only child, Mom always dreamed of a large family and she is survived by her husband (John Dunn) and six children (Deborah Nunez, Patricia Cwiak, Pamela Hay, Tim O'Brien, Dennis O'Brien and Tracy Collins). Myrna had many endeavors and her aptitude for business was only exceeded by her generosity toward all she encountered in need. Many may know our mother as the long-time owner of the Antique Collective on Mill St. She and John (a retired Reno Firefighter), were active in many other pursuits including competitive shooting, hunting and traveling. Many may not know that Myrna was a concert vocalist who performed semi-professionally for most of her life in choirs and as a soloist. But most of all, she raised children for a living. She leaves a large and loving family that boasts 32 grand and great-grandchildren...and counting. She has retired from her responsibilities on this earth; only to be in a better place where she can more effectively watch over us all. She has been a bright, shining and determined presence in all our lives. Surely her lovely, lovely essence lives on in us still and will pass, mother to child, generation by generation to all her descendants.

Services will be held at Crosswinds Church located at 2100 El Rancho Dr. Sparks on Sat. Nov. 4th at 11:00 AM.

Dear John and family;
I came to the celebration of life for your beautiful mother. I left following the ceremony, as my wife has been in the hospital for several months and I needed to be by her side.
I just wanted to tell you that I was very touched by all the wonderful things said about your beautiful Myrna. I have known John all my life. We both were raised in Reno. Throughout our busy lives, we've slipped out of contact. I wish to extend my deep sympathy for your loss. Thank you for taking the time to share about your mom, John's sweet Myrna. Truly, she was an amazing person and she lives in each of you.

Dear John and Family,
I, Kim Morris and the gang at the Gold N Silver Restaurant are so sorry for your loss. Myrna was a kind, beautiful, caring lady. She had so much class and to see her courage through the years is amazing. When she walked through the doors she always had a smile and showed concern for EVERYBODY. We will miss her forever and I will never forget her. I'm Sorry Michael. I loved her hair.

Dear John & family,
Our hearts are saddened to hear that you have lost your wonderful wife, mother & grandmother... and for us, a friend of over 30 years. We will never forget Myrna, her kindness, generosity, and caring for others. We met Myrna, I believe, in 1981 when we all moved our treasures for sale into the Antique Collective, becoming some of the very first dealers there. Paul & I were there for 10 years and have so many happy memories of the store and Myrna. John, you both, along with your family, were such hard workers and made the collective the best shop in town!
We are glad that lately we had gotten to see Myrna and chat with her several times at Lightning's auction previews. She was being so strong and positive through her illness and was continuing to do the things she loved. We know she was a very special person to her family & friends. Our hearts go out to you all at this time, but we know, as believers, we will meet again!
Love to all,
Paul & Jayne Elliott

P.S. Sadly, we have another Celebration of Life for a family member the same day, but we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

I loved Myrna very much. She was one of the kindest people you'd ever want to know. She always greeted me with a loving hug and smile. I will miss her very much. I am sorry that I will miss the service, as we will be in California scattering my own mother's ashes on that day.

We encountered Myrna's compassion and kindness at Ted and Lois Lauder's home many times. I have a beautiful relish dish I purchased from the Antique Collective for my momma many years ago. My heart aches for your loss and rejoices that you embraced your momma's love for so many years.
Deepest sympathy,
Tom and Sev Thompson

As my mother's good friend, I used to visit with Myrna at shooting matches and later at her Antique Collective. I still think of her every time I drive by that building on Mill Street. I will always remember how kind she was. I'm so sorry for your loss.
