Robert Mayberry Obituary

Robert G. Mayberry

March 4, 1932

June 14, 2011

"Heaven must have been missing an angel, for He called on 'Big Bob' to make everything right." Robert Mayberry died peacefully with his wife, Maryanne, and family & friends at his side on June 14, 2011. Bob, often called "Big Bob" or the "Gentle Giant," was someone truly thought of as a good guy - a calm, gentle man doing no harm to others as he lived his life. Born to William and Delilah Mayberry in Provo, Utah, Bob moved to Reno as a baby, graduated from Reno High School, joined the U.S. Marines in 1950, and served in Korea. He was forever proud to be a Marine Veteran and loved to fly his American and Marine flags side by side.

While raising his six children and working as a painting contractor, Bob suffered the tragedy of losing his youngest son, Jamie, to a bicycle accident. Through tragedy, love was born as Bob and Maryanne came together. They were married in 1974 and continued raising seven surviving children through the ups and downs of life. Birthdays, graduations, fishing, card games, many camping trips and good times with friends leave us with great, funny memories. Bob often said how fortunate he was to have met so many wonderful people as a painting contractor, as part of the team at Fitzgerald's Hotel & Casino and at Quail Surgery Center. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, son Jamie, daughter Janna, granddaughter Janine, brother Mont, sister Della, and sisters-in-law Joyce Mayberry, Ruth Snow and Betty Snow. He is survived by his wife Maryanne; children Jay, Jon (Jennifer), Joel (Dee), Jeff, Todd Emery (Jane) and Valerie Oxhorn (Mickey); brothers Vern and Ardee; eight loving grandchildren; nine precious great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews and many friends

Those of us who knew you as Bob, Bobby, Dad, Grandpa, "Mickey Bob,' Big Bob, Brother and friend will hold your love in our hearts forever.

Final arrangements entrusted to the Walton's Funeral Home, Reno.

A memorial service will be held at the Northern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada, on Friday, August 12, at 2:00PM.

Why do we put off visiting old friends until its too late. We have thought of Bob and Maryann often since you moved from West 7th neighborhood but just didn't make the time to visit and now we wish we had. We will miss Big Bob very much.
