Thomas Carroll Obituary

Thomas Michael Carroll Jr.

Thomas Michael Carroll Jr. passed away March 10, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona. Tom was born in Chester, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Helen (nee Hefton) Carroll. He grew up in Brookhaven, Pennsylvania. In his younger years, he wrestled and played football. He lived in Brookhaven until moving to Laguna Niguel, California in the 1980's. He later resided in Reno, Nevada, and Mesa, Arizona. Proud of his Country, he bravely served in the Air Force, specializing in the Air National Guard. Tom spent most of his career in the construction industry. He worked for Westinghouse Inc, Ebasco Services Company, Gilbert Associates, and Schneider Construction. In May of 2008, he retired from SMC Construction where he had the role of partner. Believing in giving back to the community, Tom was active in many organizations - including the Boys and Girls Club of Reno, Nevada, the Elks Club and the American Legion. Tom wanted to take care of the world, and fix every problem. He married the love of his life, Teri, in June of 1999 in Reno, Nevada. She fell in love with the kindest man she ever met, and he fell in love right back. Spending time with family and friends brought him so much joy. Vacationing in Hawaii, wood working, and hunting with his dogs were all activities that Tom relished in. He was not only a loving man, but he was so very loved in return and will be greatly missed. Tom is survived by his adoring wife, Teri, children Colleen (Greg) Graveline, Kathleen (Preston) Hagan, Michael (Jessica) Carroll, and Richard Carroll, grandchildren Grant Graveline, Brooke Graveline, and a baby girl expected in the summer, brother William (Mary Alice) Carroll, sister Mary (Tom) Grigas, In-Laws Marvin and Eulene Goodrich, niece Amanda Grigas, and nephew William (Lauren) Carroll, and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Tom's name to either the Boys and Girls Club in Reno, Nevada or the Alzheimer Foundation. Teri and the rest of the Carroll family, Keith and I are so sorry for your loss and like many, many people, we feel special to be able to say we knew Tom! We will cherish the memories of Christmas parties at your house, our first (and only) homemade stromboli, wearing silly hats while playing cards, big boys playing kid games in the pool...I could go on and on but most of all, Thank you for always making us feel like we were part of your family and thank you for many years of great times and we will have a glass of chardonnay in your honor!

So sorry to hear about Tom's passing. He went to school with my mother and he and Adeline were great friends with my parents (Ed and Nancy Kyle). I will always remember Tom trying to teach me to do a flip in his backyard pool - he was so fun and patient. My condolences go out to his dear family and friends.

To all members of the Tom Carroll Family, Tom was a great friend of my wife and I since we met 42 years ago. Tom had an innate way of getting close to you and you knew down deep that you had a friend for life. We will miss him very much and the only thing that will fill the void of his passing will be the many happy memories that we shared over the years. Tommy, may God Bless You always!!!! Love, Cheryl and BiLL Davis

Since Tom left for Arizona we have missed Terri's and his involvement in the Boys & Girls Club. The Christmas party, where everyone had to bring a gift for a kid at the Club or else.... or Terri's involvement in our events or Tom's tenantious commitment to the kids in Northern Nevada. We have all missed his quick Irish temper and his 'won't take no for an answer' attitude. The time he spent in Reno left an impression on generations of kids. A wonderful man that made a difference in the lives of so many. All our prayers and thoughts are with you during these tough times.

Oh Tommy...We were the best of friends growing up and unfortunately lost contact. You were one great kid and one best friend. Too, too young!!!

Tom was a good person at heart and a great friend. He was great to work with and if he gave you his word you knew you could trust him to keep it. He loved his work and play and spoke dearly of his family. I am a better person for having known Tom. He will be missed.

Our sympathies to the Carroll family and his many friends.
