James Ebner
November 2, 1930 - November 4, 2025
James A. "Jim" Ebner, age 95, of Cameron, WI passed away November 4, 2025 at his home, surrounded by family members. James was born November 2, 1930 in Rice Lake, WI to Henry and Susan (Thimmiesh) Ebner and grew up in Cameron. Jim's parents relocated Ebner Box Inc. to Cameron in the late 20's. Jim began working in the plant when he was a teenager, working with his dad on maintaining and designing machines to produce various products manufactured at the plant. In 1952, Jim was called to active duty and served in the Korean War. In 1954, he met Beverly Hammer at an Ebner reunion, where he was giving rides in his airplane. It must have been some flight, as they married on Aug. 25, 1956 and together they had eight children. Jim was very active within St. Peter's Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 194 and was a member on the Village Board. As his children grew up, he became Pack 52 Cub Master and ran Cub Days at Camp Phillips. He was awarded the District Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, St. George Award, was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and went to Philmont and Wood Badge for advanced training. In addition to Scouting, Jim has been an active member for the Knights of Columbus Council 2137 for 75 years. He joined at a very young age with his father and enjoyed the charitable work, unity, fraternity and patriotism the organization provided. Jim also became a member of the Fourth Degree. As if Jim wasn't busy enough, he was very active at the Barron County Museum selling tickets, helping restore displays, giving school tours at the Ebner Box Factory building, running the divider machine and showing patrons how the machine worked. The family business was sold in 1992. Jim enjoyed traveling with Bev, spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and winters in Texas. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his friends, church and playing cards at the Senior Center.
Surviving are his brothers and sister: Robert Ebner, Bud Ebner and Joan Rosenberger, his children: Sue (Jay) Schmoker of Oshkosh, Kurt (Daren Latham) of Minneapolis, MN, Karen Ebner of Rush City, MN, Lori (David) Williamson of Rockwall, TX, John (Heather Gavin) of Barron and Sandy (Mark) Magistad of Stillwater, MN., grandchildren: Jason (Kelly) Schmoker, Jeff (Jenn) Schmoker, Luke (Karey) Schmoker, Sarah (Ben) Isaac, Jeremy Ebner, Chris Zinky, Michelle (Joseph) Maxey, Dylan Magistad, Carter Magistad, Jennifer Jungk , Matthew Latham, Lane Nagle, Paul Senske and all the great-grandchildren, as well as lots of nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, daughter: Diane, son: Joel and sister: Marylou (Ebner) Lieberherr.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on November 7, 2025 at the Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home, 400 North 1st St. Cameron, Wisconsin 54822. Visitation will also be held for the hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 8, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1618 20th St. Cameron, Wisconsin, with Father Mariadas Vallabhaneni officiating. Interment will be held on a later date at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Rice Lake WI. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Cameron & Dallas.
