NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI- Marilyn F. (Woodward) Charest, 85, a lifelong resident of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on November 3, 2025 at Elderwood of Scallop Shell at Wakefield. She was the daughter of the late Clarence M. Woodward and Eleanor W. (Carpenter) Woodward.
Marilyn was raised and educated in North Kingstown, the town she loved and proudly called home throughout her life. She devoted over 40 years to the North Kingstown Public Schools Food Service Department, beginning her career at Davisville Middle School and rising to become Coordinator of the department. Her kindness, dedication, and warm spirit touched the lives of countless students and colleagues over the years.
Marilyn shared many wonderful years with her beloved husband, Ernest, and together they raised three children who were the center of her world. Her greatest joy came from her family - especially her cherished grandchildren whose love filled her heart and brought her endless happiness. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her unwavering love, and the warmth she brought to every life she touched.
She had a passion for collecting antiques and was a gifted taxidermist, with a special love for cats and birds. She cherished the many weekends she spent in Vermont and New Hampshire with her husband. Above all, Marilyn held Christmas close to her heart, creating treasured memories with her children and grandchildren, and she devoted her life to ensuring her family was always cared for.
Marilyn was the devoted wife of the late Ernest W. Charest for 62 years. She was
the beloved mother of Kimberly M. Sampson of North Kingstown, RI, Shari M. Almeida and her husband, James of Loris, South Carolina, and Douglas E. Charest, Sr, and his wife, Tara of North Kingstown, RI. She was the devoted grandmother of Matthew L. Almeida, James E. Almeida and his wife, Allison (Sunny), Kate-Lynn A. (Charest) Sharp and her husband Gary E. Sharp, II, and Douglas E. Charest, Jr. She was the great-grandmother to Jordan P. Almeida, Blake D. Charest, Venenzio M. Charest, Santino A. Charest and Connor W. Sharp and great-great grandmother of Paisley A. Hagenbach. She was preceded in death by her brothers; David M. Woodward and Lance C. Woodward. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Marilyn's wishes she will be interred with her husband Ernest at Elm Grove Cemetery in North Kingstown after a private family service.
