Richard Bernard Obituary
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed as an interpreter at Ellis Island. Richard's lifelong career in real estate started shortly after his return from the service, when he joined the family business, H.J. Bernard Realty of Coventry. As the past president of the Kent County Board of Realtors, he was recognized as Realtor of the Year in 1966 for his outstanding contributions to the realtor profession. In 2007, Richard received the status of Realtor Emeritus for 40 years of dedication to the N.A.R. He was past President of the Rhode Island Golf Association, a member of Quidnessett Country Club, and Lago Mar Country Club of Plantation, FL.
Son of the late Henry and Marie (Beauchemin) Bernard, survived by his sister Penny Bernard Weber, and his five children: Susanne and the late Tom Suprock, Trisha and Donald Metcalf, Karen Bernard, Jody and Richard Bernard Jr., and Allison Bernard. Pepé to 11 grandchildren: John IV, Brandon, Ingrid, Jeremy, Nicole, Lauren, Amanda, Timothy, Isabella, Richard III, and Julia Bernard.
Richard will be remembered as a loving husband, father, Pepé, colleague and friend.
Funeral Saturday October 13th at 8:30 am from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Calling hours: Friday October 12th from 4-8 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the John P. Burke Memorial Caddy Scholarship Fund, 1 Buttonhole Dr., Providence, RI 02909.

Dick was a very dear friend. I was just telling a friend the other day what a great guy he was, a wonderful sense of humor and a storyteller. Funny, and never off color. We enjoyed many good times together at Lago Mar. My sincere sympathy to Ginnie and the family. Words cannot express how much my late wife Elsa and I thought of Dick, he was very special to us.

I have fond memories of spending time with you and the family; listening to you singing in French to your grand children, regaling us with stories of how you and Ginny met; racing 4.5 lb lobsters across your kitchen floor and playing golf at Quidnesset.
