BILLY THOMAS Obituary
BILLY E. THOMAS
Richfield, Utah: Billy Evan Thomas, 90, passed away on October 10, 2025, in Salt Lake City. He was born May 11, 1935, in Sterling, Utah, to Johnny Evan and Lillie Larsen Thomas. He married Carolyn Grace Tobler, June 3, 1960, in the Manti Temple, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with their children and grandchildren. Though this obituary is about Billy, you will notice that many things about Billy include his wife, Carolyn. Together, they are a unit of one. They have supported each other throughout their history together.
Billy attended the BYU Piano Technology school for 2 years. Though Billy was from Sterling and Carolyn was from Richfield, they chose to raise their family in Richfield, where they opened Thomas Music in 1965 and were a major presence on Richfield's Main Street for several years. Billy taught guitar lessons in the back and tuned and repaired pianos for many loyal customers around the valley for over 25 years. Carolyn sold pianos and other musical instruments along with all kinds of sheet music and records (you old enough to remember records???). After 50 years, they decided to retire from the store.
Just because he retired from the store didn't mean he was ready to retire and sit around. He kept himself busy. He was a master builder, and there were many other projects to look forward to, whether it be at the house, with one of his kids, or up at his mother's in Sterling, he always had something going on. He also loved cars, repairing and fixing them up for car shows, where he won many trophies and awards. At church, he and Carolyn were over the library in their ward.
Billy is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children: Tommy Nolan (Lisa P.) Thomas, Marty Robin (Kari) Thomas, Seth E. Thomas, Robbie Tyson Thomas; son-in-law, Andrew Bailey; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wilma Thomas. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sweet daughter, Trudy Lynne Bailey; siblings: Nedra (Ace) Allred and Shelton J. Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in the Magleby Mortuary Chapel, where friends may call to visit with the family on Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to services. Burial will be in the Richfield City Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina, and Manti.
