CHARLES WINN Obituary

CHARLES "BILL" WINN 09/15/1935 - 11/1/2025 Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, -great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at home on November 1, 2025, at the age of ninety, surrounded by his Sweetheart, Irene and Angel, LJ. Bill was born on September 15, 1935, in Richfield, Utah, to Loron Lamar and Gertrude Alene Williams Winn. Growing up in a large, close, warm, loving home of eight children with four brothers and three sisters Bill attended local schools and graduated from Richfield High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1958 and served in Germany, being honorably discharged in 1964. On February 10, 1962, Bill married the love of his life, Irene Inlay, in Elko, Nevada. They shared sixty-five wonderful years together, anchored in love. Their daughter, Lorrie (LJ), was Bill's devoted fishing partner and cherished companion. Whether fishing at Joe Bush or riding high on her dad's shoulders at Rocky Point, the two shared a bond that only deepened in later years as LJ lovingly cared for her father through his health challenges. She considers it an honor and would not have it any other way! One of LJ's best memories is when her Dad taught her to drive; Bill took LJ, in his standard transmission truck, to 1300 South, which is a steep hill, telling LJ that if she could make it up the hill; using a stick shift, she would have learned to drive. And she did! Tessa, Bill's granddaughter, always remembers his happy disposition, his kind and generous soul, and how his hugs radiated with his abundant love. Bill was kind, compassionate, sentimental, honest, and a man of great integrity. He will be remembered as a loving, gentle, and selfless soul the kind of person who would do anything for anyone. He was the heart of the Winn family, and his absence leaves a profound void. A true animal lover, Bill adored his many dogs over the years. Among them, Brownie held an incredibly special place in his heart the top dog in a long line of much-loved furry family members. Bill worked for Construction Specialties and Bailey Tire Company before pursuing his dream of self-employment. He proudly owned and operated "Winn's Used Books," a venture that perfectly blended his passions for antiquing, treasure hunting at yard sales, and attending swap meets with his grandson and father-in-law. Friday the 13th was famously unlucky for Bill he broke his jaw, leg, and arm on three separate Fridays the 13th. After that, he stayed home on Fridays! Bill loved fishing and camping at Fish Lake and Johnson Reservoir with his family. Bill loved to Deer Hunt with his brothers; but his tender heart could not bear to see a deer shot. While his brothers scouted for deer; Bill was scouting for deer as well, however Bill would scare the deer away to save their lives. Bill loved the Utah Jazz and spent many evenings watching basketball and sharing popcorn with his grandson, Charlie. In recent years, Bill enjoyed classic Western films. Bill is survived by his devoted wife; Irene Winn; daughter; LJ Hancock (Mo Hernandez), grandchildren; Charles J. Hancock (Jayne Watson) and Tessa Irene Scharman (Scott Rosenberg), great-grandchildren; Dimitry Ford (Ash Gardner), Charles Marcus Hancock, Kyler Jay Hancock, Mariah Rosenberg, and Scarlee Rosenberg, and great-great-granddaughter; Olivia James. Bill is also survived by brothers; Rex Winn, Russell Winn, Chad (Teresa) Winn; and sisters; Beverly Cooper, Susan (Sandy) Mulkey, and Janis (Bryce) Nielson; sisters-in-law; Kaye (Jerry) Vaccaro and Judy Peterson; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; Loron and Gertrude Winn, brothers; Jim Winn and Rodney Curfew; infant sisters; Lorna and Barbara Winn, brother-in-law Duane Cooper, sisters-in-law; Mariam Winn, Dianne Winn, Deon Winn, and Mary Winn, nephew; James Anderson, granddaughter-in-law; Kimberly Hancock, and parents-in-law; Elmer B. Inlay and Mary Elizabeth Gregory. Oh, what a joyous reunion it will be when Bill embraces his mom, Dad, and adored family! Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Magleby Mortuary Chapel in Richfield.
