ROBERT IMES
Robert Paul Imes, 81, of Sevier, Utah, returned home peacefully on October 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Robert grew up in Dyer, Indiana. After graduation, his adventurous spirit led him to hitchhike 2,200 miles to Seattle for the World's Fair. After working a few jobs, he joined the United States Air Force.
While stationed in California, he met and married Kathe Jackson. They lived in Alaska, California, and Nevada, where Robert began his career as an ironworker. His craftsmanship helped shape the Las Vegas skyline, contributing to landmarks like Circus Circus, the MGM, Bally's, the International Hotel, and the Luxor. His name still appears on an I-beam at the Marshmallow Factorya symbol of his humor and pride in his work.
Bob and Kathe had three children and shared a love of laughter and dancing in the kitchen. After their separation, Robert spent two years as a devoted single father before marrying Patricia (Brady) Imes in the St. George Utah Temple. Together, they raised four more children and created a home filled with music and laughter.
In 1995, Bob fulfilled a dream by building a home he designed himself in Kamiah, Idaho. In 2006, he and Patty moved to Sevier, Utah where he worked as a janitor at Monroe Middle School. His kindness and humor made every student feel seen and valued.
Bob had a gift for connecting with people. He often carried an envelope with a hundred dollars, ready to share with anyone in need, including many of the 92 hitchhikers he picked up.
He loved to make people laugh, surprising cashiers with a "diamond clip" or sharing his favorite joke: that the longest word in the English language is smilesbecause there's a mile between the S's.
Bob loved music and found comfort in song lyrics. Having spent time in foster care as a child, the line "I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come to show the way," from the song I Believe, by Frankie Laine, held deep meaning for him. At 27, he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, feeling strongly that the missionaries who taught him had shown him the way.
Bob is preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Brady) Imes and former wife Kathe (Jackson) Lessley. He is survived by his children Cinthia McRae, Robert Imes, Daniel Imes, Joseph (Jennifer) Imes, Anna (Andrew) Christensen, Joshua (Andrea) Imes, and Rebecca Imes; and grandchildren Jessica Mendez, Dallas Evans, Jordan Evans, Cory Imes, Amber Imes, Sarah Christensen, Evelyn Christensen, Amy Christensen, Brady Imes, Birkley Imes, and Bridger Imes.
Funeral services were held in Elsinore, Utah, and burial in the Panguitch Cemetery with Military Honors. Robert was under the care of Magleby Mortuary of Richfield, Salina, and Manti.
