David Kriegel, 77, of 165 East Street, Johnsonburg, died Wednesday afternoon, June 2, 2021 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born April 22, 1941 in Ridgway a son to Anthony and Gertrude Keenen Kriegel. On June 25, 1960 in St. Anne Church, Wilcox he married Rose Marie Payne and she survives. He was a lifelong resident of Johnsonburg and a 1959 graduate of Johnsonburg High School. Dave was a member of Holy Rosary Church and a Life Member of NRA. He had been a member of East End Hose Co. He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved so much. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his family and friends and going to the casino.
In his younger days he had worked at his brother Eugene's service stations, Kriegels Quaker State and Kriegels Keystone Service Station, both in Johnsonburg's East End. He had also worked at Stackpole Carbon Co. for 15 years. In 1978 he bought a log truck and was a log truck driver until his retirement in 2007.
Dave is survived by his wife Rose at home, a son Lyle David Kriegel and his wife Tammy of Johnsonburg, a daughter Darcy Oliver of Johnsonburg and 8 grandchildren; Courtney Crotzer and her companion Ken Curtis, Cassie, Mrs. Dan Carnovale, Daniel Kriegel and his wife Brie, Cody Krigel and his wife Jenna, Josh Oliver, Jenna, Mrs. Aaron Stenta, Ethan Rowles and his wife Tara and McKenna Rowles. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren; Ryan Crotzer, Peyton Kriegel, Bentley Wiltrout, Eli Oliver, Juliana and Tessa Kriegel, Margo and Rue Carnovale, Avery and Mike Kriegel and Rhett Stenta and Baby Oliver is due in July and Baby Rowles is due in January. Also surviving is a very special young man to the family, Matthew Dauber.
Also surviving is a brother Robert Kriegel of St. Marys and sisters Sarah Nielson of Johnsonburg and Nancy, Mrs. Gerald "Jerry" Chiesa of Johnsonburg. Dave is predeceased by his parents, his son Daniel in 1987, brothers Richard and Eugene "Oscar" Kriegel and sisters Agnes Melhalko, Katherine Brown and Frances Johnson. A Mass of Christian Burial for Dave Kriegel will be conducted at Holy Rosary Church, Johnsonburg on Saturday June 5, 2021 at 10 AM with Dave's nephew, Monsignor Henry Kriegel, pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Erie as celebrant. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Johnsonburg.
Friends will be received at the Anthony F Ferragine Funeral Home, 401 Chestnut Street Johnsonburg, Pa Friday evening from 5 to 8 PM. Uncle Dave was a kind hearted, gentle soul. Family was his priority, he was always there to listen and support. I remember when he called me a "Yankee". He will be greatly missed, always remembered. Love you Uncle Dave.
