Don Hamberger was our father. He was born November 13, 1929. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Ridgway, PA when he was 5 years old. Dad grew up in Ridgway and enjoyed all the outdoor activities Ridgway had to offer. He learned how to hunt, swim, fish, run a projector at the local theater that my grandfather managed. He started a family in Ridgway with his first wife Florence. My brother and sister were born in Ridgway but soon, my father would move the family to Levittown, PA to eventually land a job at US Steel in Fairless Hills for the next 20 plus years. My father met my mother in 1965 and decided to take a drive down to look for an engine needed for their landlocked boat in Lanoka Harbor and ended up driving down Butler Boulevard in Bayville where a man had the exact engine dad needed for the boat. He purchased the engine and then drove around Glen Cove development and found a lot that my mother and father would buy and build their dream home. My parents finished the house in 1973. They built the house with the help of family. Once settled, my father became an avid fisherman and enjoyed every season on the bay. Our father was fun, he enjoyed entertaining with his friends and neighbors. He loved to push things to the limit, drive fast, race boats make us sweat when he would plow through the inlet. Our father decided to move back to his beloved Ridgway to slow down, enjoy the hills of PA and re-connect with old friends and spend time with his son Ray and grandsons Bryan and Chris on ATV's and hunting. He then had to move to Florida to be closer to me to fight another match with cancer. On June 30th our father passed away with family by his side. He was loved by many and I am grateful so many people who he knew reached out to offer kind words and prayers for him. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae (Tarreto) Hamberger, his father Charles Hamberger, his mother Amber (D'Ivernois) Hamberger and his sister Jennie Hillerstrom. He is survived by his daughter and son in law Jenifer and Andrew Clayton, his son Raymond P. Hamberger, his daughter Amber (Hamberger) Reynolds and his grandchildren, Bryan, and Ally Hamberger, Katherine (Reynolds) Figenshu and Christopher Hamberger. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
