John Bauer Obituary

John E. Bauer, 82, of Vine Road, St. Marys, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a battle with cancer.
He was born on May 24, 1943 in St. Marys, PA, a son of the late Edward and Alice "Mickey" Schatz Bauer.
On April 2, 1964, at Queen of the World Church, he married the love of his life Diane Knight Bauer, who survives. Together they were blessed with more than 61 years of marriage.
John was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1961. He was a member of St. Marys Church and retired from Keystone Carbon Company after more than 40 years of dedicated service. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 6 years and was a proud member of the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
With a great love for the outdoors, John could often be found hunting or spending time at camp with his family, including his nephew whom he was very close to.  John greatly enjoyed taking care of his cars, they were always clean and well maintained. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and loved nothing more than spending the day out in the sunshine working around the house. John coached youth football for a number of years and also enjoyed watching Penn State football games. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed family vacations and spending time together.
In addition to his beloved wife, Diane, he is survived by two children; Christian (Heather) Bauer of New Freedom, PA and Jennifer Bauer of St. Marys, as well as by his two cherished grandchildren; Jack and Katie. He is further survived by three sisters; Carol (Joe) Ehrensberger and Mary Lee (Jerry) Bonfardine, both of St. Marys, and Jan (Chris) Nagurney of Warren, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for John E. Bauer will be celebrated on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 12:00 PM at the St. Marys Church, 315 Church Street, St. Marys, PA 15857 with Fr. Thomas Curry, OSB, officiating.
Military Honors will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.
Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received at the St. Marys Church on Friday, February 6, 2026 from 11:15 AM until the time of the Mass.

Dear Diane and Family,
It is with great sorrow that I learned of John's passing. I grew up with John while living in Lynchville. Even though I haven't lived in St Marys for most of my adult life, I remember John as a good, kind, and a thoughtful friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. May he rest now in the arms of our Loving Lord.
My Sympathy to Diane and John's Family,
Alan Hannibal
