In Loving Memory of Fausto Rolando Vinces Velez: July 29, 1939 – July 12, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fausto Rolando Vinces Velez, who left us peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on July 29, 1939, in Castilla, Piura, Peru, Fausto was the beloved son of Manuel Eduardo Vinces Zevallos and Maria Cristina Velez Olazabal. Known affectionately by many as "El Ingeniero" (The Engineer), Fausto lived a life marked by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to family, education, and community.
Fausto married the love of his life, Elma Maria Rosa Pastorino Medina, on May 28, 1966. Their enduring partnership was a source of strength and inspiration, lasting nearly six decades. Despite facing many hardships, Fausto consistently went out of his way to help others. He was a man of deep wisdom, boundless kindness, and enduring humility. With a remarkable ability to see the good in people and a gift for humor in any situation, he was a natural friend to all who crossed his path. His strength, intelligence, perseverance, and loving heart made him a role model not only to his children but to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
His journey of amazing achievements began at age 16 when he won Peru's prestigious National Educational Competition, "The Champion of Knowledge," triumphing over the country's brightest high school students. In recognition of this honor, his hometown awarded him a scholarship to attend college. He went on to earn scholarships to pursue graduate studies at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where he received both his Master's and Doctorate degrees in Civil engineering.
Fausto returned to Peru in 1969 with his young family and began a long and distinguished career as a civil engineer and academics. He held several key administrative positions within Peru's university system, serving as Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. In parallel, he became an urban developer in Lima and other localities.
In his later years, Fausto continued to share his knowledge and passion for teaching and sharing his knowledge by tutoring students in mathematics, statistics, and Spanish at Mercy University, Dobbs Ferry.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Manuel Eduardo and Maria Cristina, beloved brother Nicanor and daughter in law Shamyra, wife of his son Giorgio.
Fausto is survived by his loving wife Elma, their devoted children Yuri, Veronica, Giacomo, Giorgio, and Christian; daughters-in-law Ilona, Lisa, and Melanie; son-in-law Thomas; and grandchildren Giuliana, Isabella, Giacomo, Santiago, Nicholas, Franco, and Giada. He is also survived by his brothers Dante and Manuel, sisters-in-law Elsa and Zayra, and brothers-in-law Juan and Manuel.
Though our hearts are filled with deep sorrow and sadness, we find comfort in the love he shared and the legacy he leaves behind. Fausto will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched. He was a dutiful son, loyal friend, beloved husband, amazing father and grandfather.
