Allen Cecil Ford, 82, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 29, 2023.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Cecil Ford and Hazel Perdue Ford, wife, Karen Elaine Wade Ford, and daughter Amber Lynn Ford.
Allen is survived by his son, Phillip Allen Ford, and his wife, April Mummau Ford; daughter Anna Dukes; and grandchildren Emerson Joel Ford, Garrett Hugh Ford, Eric Dukes, and Lisa Florenzano.
Allen was one of ten children. He was raised in Herndon, West Virginia where he enjoyed roaming the hills and mountains. Allen and Karen moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia a few years after Phillip was born and made their home together there for 29 years. They retired together to Roanoke, Virginia in 2018 to be close to their grandchildren.
Allen enjoyed nature, gardening, taking long walks, bird watching, fishing, studying history, and cars. He proudly served in the US Army and US Navy. During his military service, Allen enjoyed his time aboard the USS Noa seeing new parts of the world. Allen was a coal miner in West Virginia and after moving to Virginia worked in careers where he could use his mechanical skill. He enjoyed a good conversation about history or nature and could often be found conversing with neighbors. Allen was always ready for a new adventure whether that be a simple walk or trip somewhere new.
The immediate family will hold a private home ceremony in celebration of Allen's life per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, Allen would rather donations be made to the National Parks Conservation Association (https://support.npca.org/page/60513/donate).
