Ann S. Pierce, 81, of Vinton, Va., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, with her family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Christine "Tenny" Swain; sister, Lois Chitwood; and brother-in-law, Bobby Bobbitt.

Ann was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. She was known as "Grandma" to many of the children from church. Ann loved her church family and was blessed with a sweet spirit to encourage others. Her mission was to send cards with encouraging and inspiring messages to church members, neighbors, friends, and even complete strangers for birthdays, get well, graduation, prayers and much more. She loved spending time with family and friends, and traveling around the country, especially visiting Pennsylvania.

Ann is survived by her husband of 59 years, W. Russell Pierce Sr.; son, William R. Pierce Jr. (Robbie); brothers-in-law, Joe Chitwood and Earl Pierce; sister-in-law, Louise Bobbitt; her adopted grandkids from church; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Temeles and staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Care - Bedford for their care and compassion.

The family will receive visitors from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to8 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Greg Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton.
