December 2, 1930 - May 29, 2023
Anne Whiteside Denson of Roanoke, Va., was taken home by her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Born in Buena Vista, Va., to the late Dr. William Brokaw Denson and Celeste Whiteside Denson, she grew up in Roanoke, attending Jefferson High School and Mars Hill College.
Afterward, she went to seminary in New Orleans to become a chaplain. Upon graduation, she left to be a missionary in Brazil and other parts of the world. Anne's love of the Lord was paramount in her life, and she took great joy in her outreach to others.
Anne was selfless; this is not hyperbole; she devoted her life to helping others. For most of the last 25 years, Anne lived at Edinburgh Square, taking her neighbors to buy groceries, to church, or simply visiting with them. Nearly every resident knew her, no matter which floor they lived on.
Anne was predeceased by her parents; sister, Betty Dean Moffit; and brother-in-law, Carroll Maurice Moffit.
She is survived by her niece, Gay Moffit, and great-niece, Michelle Moffit.
We would like to thank the staff at Friendship Manor who helped care for Anne toward the end of her life.
There will be no services as, in true Anne fashion, her final act is one of service: donating her body to the Virginia State Anatomical Program. Anne was a precious soul showing all around her how to love your neighbor as yourself. I loved Anne and the great stories she shared about her family and especially her mission work..many of them peppered with humor! I witnessed the great joy she found in her service to God and humanity. My life has been sweetly blessed by her friendship and I will miss her. Thoughts and sympathy are with her family.

Anne was a precious person, she loved everyone and never met a stranger. My sweet Mom, Anne and I tried to keep the Truck stop cookie ministry going for years which was so much fun working with the Preston Oaks WMU group. Anne was an Angel sent from our Heavenly Father. We loved her.

Anne was such a sweet, caring lady. My family has known her for many years while she attended and served at Preston Oaks Baptist Church and she was always smiling and had kind words for everyone. I have no doubt that Anne is in the presence of her saviour and that He is telling her "Well done my good and faithful servant". My condolences to Gay and Michelle.

Ann was a very loving person. Always encouraging to me while at Preston Oaks Baptist Church. Even though she could not her I loved talking to her about her adventures. Prayer for the family. We loved Ann

I helped Anne on Wednesday nights at church with our toddlers. She was the sweetest person, always smiling, always praising the Lord. Always encouraging and loving. She will be missed!
