Barbara Johnson

November 15, 1928 - March 15, 2023

Barbara Elizabeth Ward Watts Johnson, of Glasgow, the third born and eldest daughter of six children, was born November 15, 1928 and peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Alice Ward; her siblings, John Henry Burks, John Albert Burks, Ruth Ward, and Lawrence Ward Jr.; and her spouses, Melvin Lewis Watts Sr. and Walter Johnson Jr.

Barbara was a special person-a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Those left to cherish her memories are her sister, Alice Brooks; sister-in-law, Simone Ward; her children, Beatrice Johnson, Mary Early (Rodney), Melvin Watts Jr. (fiancée Valencia), Marvin Watts (Charlotte), and Marjorie Valentine (Vaughan); ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; lifetime friend, Nadine Hubbard; two special friends, Ramona Dunn and Emily Lowry; her First Baptist Church Natural Bridge family; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and other friends.

Being baptized at an early age, Barbara knew and loved the Lord and found joy in serving. She was a former usher, missionary, an active member of the Pastor's aide and culinary committee, and a regular attendee. Also, she enjoyed staying active - giving 30 years of service at Burlington Industries, cutting her own lawn into her upper 80s, cooking delicious meals regularly for others, having spontaneous prayer, games, Karaoke, dancing, other get togethers, and just enjoying loving her family and friends. She will truly be missed, always remembered, honored, and loved, but never forgotten. Barbara leaves with us a family legacy of love, prayer, faith, and forgiveness.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 385 Buck Hill Rd, Natural Bridge, Va. with Pastor Ryan Hubbard officiating. Burial will be private.

Family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Bolling, Grose and Lotts Funeral Home.

How do one say Goodbye to their loved one? You don´t. You say Until we meet again... for they are never Gone, they are with you Always!! Hold on tight to all those memories, that´s what´s going to keep you in the tough times!! And some days will get tougher than others. 94 years young... we all pray to reach this beyond blessed age!!! And the obituary reads she cut her own grass in her 80´s!! That´s awesome!! ......I want to send my deep heartfelt condolences along with my husband to her entire family!! We love you and we will keep the family of this precious jewel lifted up in prayer

Dear Beatrice,Mary,(Brother in Law),Lewis, Marvin, Margie & Family My condolences, hugs and love. Ms. Barbara(2nd Mom to me) was a Mom, friend and a blessing.Never a negative word did I ever hear only positive!! Her advice was solid.Her talks meant the world to me..Oh yes she got me straight a few times in my life: because of her I changed a few things in my life. Her sweetness, kindness and laughter I will always have in my memories. On March 14th we talked.She told me that she loved me as she had done 100's of times. I told her that I loved her.

Sorry for the loss of your Love one. Mrs. Johnson was a beautiful person, with a good heart, and a smile that could be heard when ever we spoke. May the happy memories that she have given you over the years help give you comfort and peace
