Bertha Elizabeth Bragg Putze

Bertha Elizabeth Bragg Putze, 102, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at the Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg, Va. She had lived at the Showalter Center in Warm Hearth Village since 2001. She was born in Richmond, Va., on July 3, 1906, a daughter of the late Frank Alan Bragg and Maria Jones Bragg. Mrs. Putze was married to Charles Edward Putze Sr., of Danville, Va., who predeceased her in 1972. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Danville, Va., and was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the church choir, church circle leader and a past president and life member of Women of the Church. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Frank Bragg, William Bragg and Alfred Bragg; and two sisters, Erma Bragg Adams and Marguerite Bragg Ragland. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Charles Edward Putze Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Danville, Va., Dr. Robert L. Putze and his wife, Claudette, of Franklin, Va., and Norma Jo Putze Powell and her husband, Raymond "Gene," of Riner, Va. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are, Michael Putze, of Spartanburg, S.C., Dave Powell, of Raleigh, N.C., Katharyn Powell, of Castle Rock, Colo., Victor Putze and Robert Putze, of Raleigh, N.C., and Alice Putze Taylor, of Richmond, Va. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating.
