Boyd Benjamin Flora

Boyd Benjamin (B. Bennie) Flora, surrounded by his family, passed peacefully to his heavenly home on August 22, 2008. He was born on October 2, 1926 to parents, Charles Newton and Margie Naff Flora. The pride and joy of his life was his family. He and his wife Ruth Barnhart Flora had five loving daughters, Renae McBride (Roger), Kathy Carter, Evelyn Skeen (deceased) (Don), Donna Woody (H.D.), and Angela Corn (Bill). His 12 grandchildren, Steven McBride, Benjie McBride (Kristen), Christina McBride Nowlin (Travis), Justin Carter (Jessica), Kim Kirtner (Patrick), Jenny Skeen John (Bill), Kristin Skeen, Dallas Woody (Jessica), Stephanie Woody Wallis (Adam), Brittney, Aaron, and Jessica Corn, along with his eight great-grandchildren were always extra special to him. He and his brothers and sisters have always been close, Elene Flora Sink (Curtis), Alvin Flora (deceased), Lloyd Flora (Polly), Marlyn Flora Sink, and Charles "Bob" Flora (Inez). Also close are his in-laws, Lois Huffman (Earson), Mildred Boitnott (Spurgon), Fred Barnhart (deceased) (Lois), Carl Barnhart (MarySue), and Arthur Barnhart (Barbara). He also had many special nieces and nephews. Bennie and Ruth spent 61 years loving each other. Together they raised their girls working side by side on their farm. Bennie, known as the "egg man" along with his wife and girls gathered and packed many eggs. Bennie also raised beef cattle and enough garden to feed his family all year.
He was blessed with wonderful neighbors who were lifetime friends. He was a Deacon and served his church in many ways. He loved his church family and was so grateful for the wonderful kindness, love and support given to him throughout his life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 2363 Brick Church Rd., Rocky Mount, VA 24151. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. at Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren on Monday, August 25, 2008 with interment to follow at Franklin Memorial Park. Reverend Bruce Huffman will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount. www.florafuneralservice.com.
