Cassandra Elton Obituary

Cassandra Hood Elton

August 21, 1937 - December 12, 2024

Cassandra "Sandi" Hood Elton, a beacon of love and joy, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on December 12, 2024, in Roanoke, VA.

Born on August 21, 1937, in Griffin, GA, to the late Francis A. Hood and Jean D. Hood, Sandi was a woman whose radiant personality and infectious sense of humor brought light to everyone she met.

Sandi's early years in Griffin cultivated a strong sense of community and belonging that she carried with her throughout her life. After a brief tenure with the phone company in Atlanta, she met the love of her life, William B. Elton, Sr., to whom she was a devoted partner until his passing in 2016.

She is survived by her loving sons, William B. Elton, Jr., of Sugar Hill, Georgia (wife Angela Elton), and James F. Elton, MD, of Roanoke (wife Nicole Elton), who will cherish her memory; along with her adored grandsons, Chris (wife Ryanne), Nick (wife Ashley), Zach, MD (wife Emma, great-granddaughter, Reece), and Jake Elton. Each of them reflects a part of Sandi's enduring legacy through their accomplishments and characters.

Sandi's life was one marked by exploration and curiosity. Her passion for travel saw her traversing the globe, visiting England 30 times, a testament to her love for its culture and history. She also shared memorable adventures with her husband to destinations such as Egypt, Russia, Italy, Croatia, and a special trip to Switzerland with James, Nicole, and Jake. It was there, in the shadow of the majestic Matterhorn, that Sandi experienced the grandeur of the Alps, a fitting backdrop for a woman whose presence was as monumental as the mountains themselves. Sandi also loved the Georgia coast, where she spent much time with her family at Jekyll Island.

In 2019, Sandi moved to Roanoke and became a cherished resident of the Brandon Oaks Rehab facility, where she was embraced with the utmost love and care by the staff and her Roanoke Elton family. Her warmth and friendliness made her a favorite among both staff and fellow residents, and her humor continued to spark laughter and joy in the hearts of her Brandon Oaks community. Described as loving, funny, and friendly, Sandi will be remembered for her ability to make every person feel like the most important individual in the room. Sandi never met a stranger and made friends with everyone around her. Her unwavering support and unconditional love for her family were the cornerstones of her remarkable life, a life that was as full as it was fulfilling.

Sandi Elton's journey through life was a testament to the power of love, the joy of laughter, and the importance of family. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Her laughter will echo in our hearts, and her love will remain a comforting presence in our lives.

In honor of Sandi's remarkable life, a small celebration will be held soon at Brandon Oaks to gather friends and family in remembrance of a life so beautifully lived. Sandi's life was a precious gift to all who knew her, and though she has departed from this earthly journey, her legacy of love and laughter will endure forever.

To the Elton family-
Thanks for sharing 'mom' with us. She was a woman with a sense of humor that kept your day going. She was always appreciative on whatever you had done for her -in which she did not want to feel like a 'burden' to anyone. Mom was never, never a burden! Will always have an endless love for her.
