Claude Wayne HANDY

Claude Wayne (Smokey) Handy, 70, of Bedford, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1943, in Roanoke, a son of the late Frank C. Handy and Avis Louise Secrest Handy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Biggs Handy. He was a retired employee of Sam Moore Furniture and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Army. Surviving are his daughters, Cheryl Harris and husband, Mike, of Bedford, Janet Overstreet and friend, Craig Hannah, of Craig County; a brother, Ray S. Handy and wife, Juanita, of Botetourt County; two sisters, Ruth Deweese, of Botetourt County, Kathy Vann and husband, Barry, of Vinton; and three grandchildren, Michael Harris II, Holly and Annah Overstreet.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford. Interment will follow in Montvale Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after noon and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
