Clifton Slough Obituary

Clifton Dwight Slough, 76, of Vienna, Va., died on Saturday, January 10, 2009. He was born in Glasgow in 1932, a son of the late Alexander A. and Viola Bunch Slough. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Carolyn Jarvis Slough; and a sister, Hilda Mae Reynolds. He attended Glasgow Elementary School and Natural Bridge High School. Mr. Slough graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1955 with a civil engineering degree. In 1997 he was awarded lifetime membership in the American Society of Civil Engineers for his career achievements. He worked for Southern Railway System and in the Army Corp of Engineers. He had been employed by District of Columbia and the Federal Government as Civil Engineer. He retired from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 1992. Mr. Slough had resided in many locations; San Francisco, Calif., Atlanta, Ga., and northern Virginia. Surviving are his children, Stephanie Elaine Slough, of Vienna, and Clifton Christopher Slough, of Arlington; and brothers and sisters, Jackson A. Slough Sr. (Elizabeth), of Lexington, Vernelle Walker (Harold), of Roanoke, and Melvin Lloyd Slough (Bernice), of Glasgow. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009, at Jackson Memorial Hall with Chaplin Jim Park officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
